Lower East Side History Project walking tours

The Lower East Side History Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to researching and documenting the history of the greater Lower East Side of New York City. LESHP's research is used for city-wide preservation efforts, educational programming for local schools and universities, walking tours, and media consultation.

LESHP offers several public walking tours seven days a week throughout the year and have been featured in such media outlets as the New York Times, New York Magazine, and NBC. All of LESHP's guides are native New Yorkers, licensed by the city, and professional educators, historians, authors and active in the community.

The Municipal Art Society of New York, co-sponsor of Place Matters, is a non-profit organization that fights for intelligent urban planning, design and preservation through education, dialogue and advocacy.  The Municipal Art Society has been leading walking tours in New York since 1956.  MAS tour leaders are architects, architectural historians, designers, geographers, urban and art historians, teachers and writers who are singularly qualified to interpret the cityscape.
